You would expect nihilists to be hedonists. Being a product of atheism who believe that this life is the only life we have, you would also expect nihilists to err on the side of sexual liberation from the rules of marriage and good parenting without regard for posterity or the long term national interest.
Hedonists are most likely to die of a drug overdose or destroy their lives over some kind of substance or behavioural addiction believing in lies, acting irrationally and immorally.
If your political establishment is composed of nihilists and narcissists who worship only Mammon, you should not expect your civilisation to last for much longer, nor would it deserve to remain in existence.
The problem therefore solves itself.
