Every theorem, equation, or solution in math relies on logical deduction—starting from axioms (accepted truths) and using rules of inference to arrive at conclusions. For example, in geometry, proving that the angles of a triangle sum to 180° depends on logical steps rooted in Euclidean axioms.

Formal Systems: Mathematics can be seen as a formal application of logic. Fields like set theory, number theory, and algebra are built using logical symbols and rules. Mathematicians like Gottlob Frege and Bertrand Russell even tried to reduce all of mathematics to logic (a pursuit called logicism), though Gödel’s incompleteness theorems later showed limits to this ambition.

Problem-Solving: Both disciplines emphasize rigorous problem-solving. In math, you solve equations or compute values; in logic, you evaluate arguments or propositions (e.g., "if P, then Q"). The process in both involves identifying premises, applying rules, and deriving valid outcomes—think of solving "2 + 2 = 4" versus deducing "if it rains, the ground is wet."

Shared Concepts: Certain areas of math, like Boolean algebra or predicate calculus, directly overlap with logic. Boolean algebra, for instance, underpins computer science and digital circuits, using logical operations (AND, OR, NOT) to manipulate true/false values, which are inherently mathematical (1s and 0s).

Abstraction and Precision: Both fields thrive on abstract thinking and precision. Logic ensures that mathematical statements are consistent and unambiguous, while math gives logic concrete applications—like calculating probabilities or modeling relationships.

In essence, logic is the language and glue of mathematics, ensuring its coherence, while mathematics extends logic into a creative and quantitative realm. Without logic, math would lack rigor; without math, logic would miss some of its most powerful expressions.
