• Early Islamic period (7th–8th centuries): Rates were often one to four dinars annually for adult, free, sane males, depending on wealth (roughly 4.25 grams of gold per dinar). For context, this could equate to a significant burden for the poor but less for the wealthy.
• Ottoman Egypt (17th–18th centuries): Jizya was collected based on economic status, with rates like 440 para for the rich, 220 for the middle class, and 110 for the poor. These were fixed sums, not percentages.
• Mughal Empire (16th–17th centuries): Some sources claim jizya could be around 6% of property value for certain wealth thresholds under Aurangzeb, though this is debated and not universally applied.
