The concept of the "Book of the Living" refers to the Book of Life (Hebrew sefer ha-hayim) in Jewish tradition, which is not physically a book but a spiritual record of a person's fate for the coming year. God is believed to inscribe names in this "Book" on Rosh Hashanah (the Jewish New Year) and "seal" the verdict on Yom Kippur (the Day of Atonement). Through repentance (teshuvah), prayer (tefilah), and charity (tzedakah), individuals can influence their inscription and seal their fate for a life of goodness and blessing.
