Vice, virtue and hypocrisy

We may speak the same language, but we don't share the same emotions or outlook.

We look at the world through a different perspective: your outlook is filtered by the preoccupations of your ego and emotions and how to gratify them, and mine by what I believe to be Truth, Logic and Morality in my attempt to solve a problem.

It is the moral system that we are supposed to officially subscribe to that makes us know what we are supposed to do and feel invoking grand ideas such as the future of our civilisation, the national interest or even the abstraction of posterity crudely represented by our descendants we may or may not have, whom we will never meet.

This was what La Rochefoucauld meant when he said "Hypocrisy is the tribute vice pays to virtue."

We are supposed to care about such things, and if we do not, we can be shamed into pretending to do so thereby supporting the institutions that make us more likely to have offspring, grandchildren and descendants - the institution of marriage which can only be protected by religion.

Yes, non-human animals have descendants too, but they don't have civilisations, religion, or practise marriage.

It is therefore hypocrisy that makes so many pretend not to understand what I am saying so they can ignore their moral imperative to submit to truth, exercise logic and ask themselves what moral principles they have and ought to have in order to solve their problems of bad government, the kind that disdains to consider the national interest and is deaf to arguments.

Otherwise things the situation Hamlet described when he said "There is no good or evil, only thinking makes it so" will continue to prevail.
